Alexandre Bilodeau talks about ending Canada's gold medal "curse"
Hours after winning the gold medal in men's moguls at the 2010 Olympics Alexandre Bilodeau was still talking, making one of his final stops of the evening, at the Main Press Centre in downtown Vancouver. The 22-year-old from Rosemère, Que., became the first Canadian to win an Olympic gold medal at home. No Canadians won gold at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, and the country was shut out again at the 1988 Winter Games in Calgary. Over 500 Canadian athletes had missed reaching the podium's peak on home soil and Canada had been the only multiple Olympic host never to win gold at home. Post Olympic funding in jeopardy
Word that 39 workers at the Canadian Sports Centre in Calgary have been told to look for other jobs after April 1 has raised concerns that the program aimed at boosting Canada's medal haul would disappear after the Vancouver Olympics.
